Games

My programming experience started in secondary school, making games in GameMaker and drawing in 3D in SketchUp. It never quite went away. I like putting animation to playful use in websites and apps. Below are the campsite simulator I am building now, a puzzle app that is in the stores, a coin dozer that paid out in cryptocurrency and the GameMaker years before that.

Campsite (working title)

In developmentEngine: Godot 4

A campsite simulator in Godot 4, built around a European seasonal rhythm and a mildly satirical tone. A year runs in three phases: planning with the clock stopped, then a forty-night season that opens on the first Saturday of July and after that the settling up. Building costs work-days from your crew. That crew starts with you: the owner is the first worker and works for free. Guests book on price, rating and weather. On the site they weigh up wind, shade, the walk to the sanitary block and the neighbours. It is aimed at desktop, for Windows, macOS and Linux. The name follows later. I have been working on it for a long time, first in WebGL/Three.js, then restarted in Unity (2019), and then switched to Godot due to Unity's license changes. The first ideas date back a decade.

Puzzle Moment

ReleasedEngine: React Native

Puzzle Moment is made for e-ink screens such as the Boox: high contrast, large touch targets, no animations. Forty-five puzzle and game types, from sudoku and nonogram to crazy eights and mahjong. A fresh set every day, playable offline, without an account.

2016-2018

dozer.coin

Engine: Three.js and Oimo

A coin dozer, the arcade machine where a pusher shoves coins over the edge, running fully in 3D in the browser. Three.js for the rendering, Oimo for the physics, Socket.io so everyone saw the same pile. It started with plain coins and later paid out in Gulden, Bitcoin Cash and NEO GAS, with my own node behind it. The site is offline. Three.js also draws the blocks in the bottom corner of this site.

GameMaker years

Engine: GameMaker

As a schoolkid I made games in GameMaker, first by dragging and dropping and later in GML. Small platformers and top-down games, mostly prototypes that never got finished. This is where I learned loops, collisions and state machines. None of it is online any more.
