RitVandaag is my own product, live since late August 2026. Every hour it computes a ride score for road cyclists and mountain bikers from wind, rain, temperature and daylight. It then finds the best departure window of the day. Since October 2026 it also plans rides to work and to a destination, with the weather along the route.
The wind advice sends you into the wind first, so you come back with a tailwind. Weather comes in fifteen-minute steps from KNMI Harmonie, through a self-hosted Open-Meteo. For the next two hours the rain forecast comes from the KNMI radar, in five-minute steps. Mountain bikers get a trail condition per area: dry, damp or mud.
Every town in the Netherlands has its own page: 1024 towns and villages from OpenStreetMap, plus the twelve provinces and twelve cycling regions. Each page gives the distance to the coast and a wind climate drawn from five years of ERA5 data.
Technically it is a single container: PocketBase compiled as a Go program, the score engine in TypeScript inside the built-in JavaScript runtime and a React SPA with Tailwind in front. A React Native app is in development.
